FAQ

Questions About Atlanta

Can the carrier get to my house inside the Perimeter?

Sometimes. Intown streets with low trees, tight turns or cars parked on both sides can be too much for a full-size carrier. Then the driver meets you close by, often in a shopping center lot. Tell us about your street when you book.

Do I need an emissions test after shipping my car to Atlanta?

Most likely. Georgia tests most gas cars and light trucks registered in 13 metro Atlanta counties, including Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett. Get the test, then register at your county tag office within 30 days of moving.

How far ahead should I book?

A week or two ahead gives you the widest choice of carriers and dates. Atlanta sits on so many routes that shorter notice often works too. Your exact pickup window comes with your quote.

  1. Inside the Perimeter

Streets in Virginia-Highland, Inman Park and Grant Park are narrow and shaded by old trees. Low branches and tight turns can stop a full-size carrier, so the driver may meet you at a wide street or a lot nearby.

  2. Rush hour on the Connector

The Downtown Connector and I-285 back up hard twice a day. Drivers aim for early morning or midday pickups and call ahead, so keep your phone on.

  3. Gates and HOAs

Plenty of subdivisions in Cobb, Gwinnett and north Fulton have gates or HOA rules about big trucks. Check with your HOA, or plan to meet the driver at the entrance.

  4. After you arrive

New Georgia residents have 30 days to register and usually pay a one-time title tax (TAVT) at the county tag office. More on that on our Georgia car shipping page.
