City-by-city shipping notes

Wyoming has fewer people than any other state, spread over long distances. Notes on each town:

Cheyenne

The capital, where I-80 meets I-25. F.E. Warren Air Force Base is on the west side, and Frontier Days fills town in late July.

Casper

Central Wyoming on I-25, along the North Platte River.

Laramie

The University of Wyoming, on I-80 just west of Sherman Summit.

Gillette

Coal and energy country in the northeast, on I-90.

Rock Springs

Southwest Wyoming on I-80, on the long run to Salt Lake City.

Sheridan

Northern Wyoming on I-90, below the Bighorn Mountains.

Jackson

Jackson Hole, over Teton Pass from Idaho or up US-89 from the south. Resort drives are steep, so we meet in town.

Cody

The road to Yellowstone’s east entrance, on US-14/16/20.

Evanston

On I-80 at the Utah line.

Riverton

Central Wyoming on US-26, near the Wind River Reservation, a long way from any interstate.

FAQ

Wyoming Questions

Does the wind on I-80 really close the road?

Yes. When gusts get high, WYDOT closes stretches of I-80 to light, high-profile vehicles, and winter storms can close it to everyone. Carriers wait it out, so from October to April, plan on a range of dates instead of a set day.

Can you get a car to Jackson Hole?

Yes. Carriers come up US-89 from the south or over Teton Pass from Idaho, which is steep and closes at times in winter. Resort and ranch drives are often too tight for a big carrier, so we usually meet at a lot in Jackson.

I have orders to F.E. Warren. Can you help?

Yes. F.E. Warren is on the west side of Cheyenne, right off I-25. Have your orders and report date handy, and ask about our military discount; proof of service is required.

I just moved to Wyoming. How do I register my car?

Through your county treasurer. Wyoming titles and registers vehicles at the county level, and a car coming from another state usually needs a VIN inspection first. Check with your county for the deadline and what to bring.

What does it cost to ship a car to or from Wyoming?

Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Cheyenne, near Denver, is the simplest pickup; Jackson in January takes the most planning. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

I-80 Across Wyoming

I-80 crosses southern Wyoming for about 400 miles, over Sherman Summit and across open high plains where the wind rarely lets up. Snow fences line long stretches to keep drifts off the road. When gusts or storms get bad, WYDOT closes sections, sometimes for a day or more. Carriers wait it out, so a winter pickup in Laramie or Rawlins is best planned as a range of days.

Jackson Hole and the Parks

Jackson, Cody and the towns around Yellowstone and Grand Teton are a long way from the interstate. In summer, park traffic is heavy; in winter, Teton Pass and the mountain roads can close. Give us extra notice for these towns, and if you’re shipping a special car, ask about enclosed transport.
