FAQ

North Dakota Questions

Does winter stop car shipping in North Dakota?

Sometimes, for a day or two. When the state issues a no-travel advisory or closes I-94 or I-29 for a blizzard, carriers wait until it lifts. From November to March, keep your dates flexible.

Can you ship a car to or from the oil patch?

Yes. Williston, Watford City and the Bakken towns are a long way from the interstates, and the roads carry heavy truck traffic. Give us extra notice, and we’ll set a meeting spot on US-2 or US-85.

I have orders to Minot or Grand Forks. Can you help?

Yes. Grand Forks is on I-29; Minot is farther out on US-2 and US-83, so give us a little more notice. Ask about our military discount; proof of service is required.

I just moved to North Dakota. How do I register my car?

Through the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s motor vehicle offices. Bring your title, proof of insurance and your ID, and check the NDDOT for the deadline and fees that apply to you.

What does it cost to ship a car to or from North Dakota?

Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Fargo and Bismarck are on the interstates; the Bakken and the far north take more planning. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

West Fargo

Fargo’s fast-growing neighbor, mostly newer subdivisions.

Winter Shipping

North Dakota winters are long and serious. When a blizzard rolls through, the state can close I-94 and I-29 with gates and advise against all travel, and carriers wait it out. A pickup or delivery between November and March can move a day or two, so plan for a range of dates. In spring, Red River flooding around Fargo and Grand Forks can close local roads too.

The Oil Patch

Williston, Watford City, Tioga and the rest of the Bakken are hours from the nearest interstate, and US-2 and US-85 carry a lot of oil-field truck traffic. Carriers plan these runs ahead, so give us extra notice. If you’re moving for an oil-field job, we can arrange the car on either end of the move.
