FAQ

South Dakota Questions

Can you ship my motorcycle to the Sturgis rally?

Yes. Motorcycles ship on carriers set up for bikes, or enclosed. August fills up fast, so book well ahead. See motorcycle shipping.

I have orders to Ellsworth. Can you help?

Yes. Ellsworth sits right off I-90 east of Rapid City, an easy stop for carriers. Have your orders and report date handy, and ask about our military discount; proof of service is required.

Is it hard to get a car to the Black Hills in winter?

I-90 stays open most of the winter, but storms can close it for a day, and Black Hills roads get icy and steep. From November to April, leave room in your dates and plan to meet the carrier near the interstate.

I just moved to South Dakota. How do I register my car?

Through your county treasurer’s office, which handles titles and plates for the state. Bring your title, proof of insurance and your ID, and check with your county for the deadline.

What does it cost to ship a car to or from South Dakota?

Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Sioux Falls and Rapid City sit on I-90, which keeps things simple. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

The Black Hills

Rapid City, Spearfish, Sturgis and the towns around Mount Rushmore sit at the west end of I-90. In early August, the Sturgis rally fills every road and hotel in the Hills, so plan car pickups before or after rally week. In winter, the Hills get snow and ice, and steep drives are hard on a loaded carrier, so we usually meet at a lot near I-90.

Sioux Falls and the East

Sioux Falls is South Dakota’s largest city and its banking and health care center, and it sits right where I-29 meets I-90. That makes it simple for carriers. Brookings, Watertown and Aberdeen are farther from the crossroads, so give us a little extra notice. Newer Sioux Falls neighborhoods sometimes have HOA rules about big trucks, and we’ll meet at a lot nearby.
