Pickup in New York City

Five BoroughsManhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island.
Truck RulesBig rigs are kept off the parkways and many streets.
Snowbird LaneThree of our four busiest lanes from here end in Florida.
Yearly InspectionSafety and emissions, every year in New York.
  1. Where the truck can meet you

Most Manhattan side streets are too tight, or off-limits, for a full-size carrier. The driver will set a meeting point where the truck can stop safely, sometimes on a wide avenue or at a large lot.

  2. Garage-parked cars

If your car lives in a garage, tell the garage the pickup time so the car is out and ready. A carrier can’t go inside, so the hand-off happens on the street.

  3. Parkways and bridges

Commercial vehicles are barred from the city’s parkways, so carriers use the expressways and truck routes. That can change where and when the driver can reach you, and the driver will call ahead.

  4. Snowbird season

For the run to Florida, book a few weeks ahead in October and November. Our New York to Florida page has the details.

FAQ

New York City FAQ

Can the carrier pick up in Manhattan?

Sometimes, but rarely at your door. Street rules and traffic keep most full-size carriers off Manhattan’s side streets, so the driver will set a meeting point where the truck can stop.

My car is in a garage. How does pickup work?

Let the garage know the pickup time so the car is ready, then bring it to the meeting point the driver gives you. The truck can’t go inside the garage.

How far is New York City from Miami?

About 1,280 miles, nearly all of it on I-95. Orlando is about 1,070.
