FAQ

New Mexico Questions

Should I avoid shipping around the Balloon Fiesta?

In Albuquerque, yes if you can. The Fiesta runs nine days in early October, and traffic on the north side backs up from before dawn. Pick a date before or after, or meet the carrier away from the park.

Do dust storms and monsoon rains affect shipping?

Sometimes. Dust storms can close I-10 near Lordsburg, and summer monsoon storms from July to September can flood roads for a few hours. Carriers wait for the road to reopen, which can push a date a day.

I have orders to Kirtland, Holloman or Cannon. Can you help?

Yes. Kirtland is in Albuquerque on I-25 and I-40. Holloman and Cannon are farther from the interstates, so give us a little extra notice, and ask about our military discount; proof of service is required.

I just moved to New Mexico. What do I need to register my car?

A car from out of state needs a VIN inspection before New Mexico will title it, done at an MVD office or by law enforcement. Title and register soon after you move, and check the New Mexico MVD for what to bring.

What does it cost to ship a car to or from New Mexico?

Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Albuquerque and Las Cruces sit on the interstates; Roswell, Farmington and Taos take more planning. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

City-by-city shipping notes

Most New Mexicans live along I-25, from Santa Fe through Albuquerque to Las Cruces. Notes on each city:

Albuquerque

Where I-25 meets I-40 at the Big I. The Balloon Fiesta fills the north side every October.

Rio Rancho

Albuquerque’s fast-growing neighbor on the west mesa, mostly newer subdivisions.

Santa Fe

The capital, on I-25 at about 7,000 feet. Historic downtown streets are narrow, and winter brings snow.

Las Cruces

New Mexico State, where I-10 meets I-25, about 45 miles from El Paso.

Roswell

Southeastern New Mexico on US-70 and US-285, far from any interstate.

Farmington

The Four Corners on US-64 and US-550, a long drive from I-40.

Clovis

Cannon Air Force Base, near the Texas line on US-60 and US-70.

Alamogordo

Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands, on US-54 and US-70.

Taos

Mountain town and ski valley up NM-68. Winter roads and narrow streets mean a meeting spot.

Los Alamos

The national laboratory on the Pajarito Plateau, up the mesa road from Santa Fe.

Albuquerque and the Big I

I-25 and I-40 cross in the middle of Albuquerque at the Big I, so carriers come through from every direction. Pickups near the freeways are simple. In the foothills and older neighborhoods like Nob Hill, streets are narrower and we may meet at a lot nearby. During the Balloon Fiesta in early October, avoid the north side if you can.

Northern New Mexico

Santa Fe, Taos and Los Alamos sit high in the mountains, and winter brings snow and ice. Historic streets in Santa Fe and Taos are narrow and adobe-lined, with little room for a carrier, so we usually meet at a lot on a main road. From November to March, leave some room in your dates for weather.
