Kansas Questions
I have PCS orders to Fort Riley. Can you ship my car?
Yes. Fort Riley sits just off I-70 near Junction City, an easy stop for carriers crossing the state. Have your orders and report date ready, and ask about our military discount; proof of service is required.
Do storms and wind slow down shipping in Kansas?
Sometimes. Spring storms and tornado warnings can stop a carrier for a few hours, and strong crosswinds on I-70 are hard on a tall, loaded truck. In winter, snow and ice in western Kansas can close I-70 for a time. When that happens, the pickup or delivery moves to the next safe window.
I just moved to Kansas. What do I need to register my car?
Kansas gives new residents 90 days. A car titled in another state needs a VIN inspection by the Kansas Highway Patrol, and Kansas has no emissions test. Then title and register at your county treasurer’s office.
Can you ship a car to a student at KU or K-State?
Yes. Book August move-in early in Lawrence and Manhattan, and plan on meeting the carrier at a lot near campus. Ask about our student discount; proof of enrollment is required.
What does it cost to ship a car to or from Kansas?
Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Wichita and the Kansas City suburbs sit on major interstates; small towns in western Kansas take more planning. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

City-by-city shipping notes
Most Kansans live in the east, between Kansas City, Topeka and Wichita. Notes on the main cities, east to west:
Wichita
The largest city, on I-35 and I-135, with McConnell Air Force Base and enough aircraft plants to call itself the Air Capital of the World.
Overland Park
Johnson County, in the Kansas City suburbs. Newer neighborhoods may have HOA rules about big trucks.
Kansas City
Across State Line Road from Kansas City, Missouri, on I-70 and I-635.
Olathe
The Johnson County seat, on I-35 southwest of Kansas City.
Topeka
The capital, on I-70 and the Kansas Turnpike.
Lawrence
The University of Kansas, on the Turnpike between Topeka and Kansas City. Steep streets around campus.
Manhattan and Junction City
Kansas State in Manhattan and Fort Riley next door, both close to I-70.
Leavenworth
Fort Leavenworth on the Missouri River, northwest of Kansas City.
Salina
Where I-70 meets I-135, in the middle of the state.
Dodge City
Southwest Kansas on US-50 and US-400, far from any interstate. We plan the meeting spot ahead.

Fort Riley, Leavenworth and McConnell
Kansas has three big military communities: the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, the Army’s Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, and the tanker wing at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. Families move on orders all year, with the busiest stretch in summer. Many drive one car to the next post and ship the other. See military car shipping for what to have ready.
Both Sides of State Line Road
The Kansas City metro is split down State Line Road, and the Kansas side, from Overland Park and Olathe to Shawnee and Lenexa, is mostly suburbs. Carriers reach them easily from I-35 and I-435, but many subdivisions have HOA rules or narrow cul-de-sacs, so the carrier may meet you at a school or shopping lot nearby. Tell us your street when you book.
Western Kansas
West of Salina, towns are far apart and many are a long way from I-70. Carriers plan these trips ahead, so give us extra notice for Dodge City, Garden City, Hays or Liberal. In June and July, wheat harvest puts combines and grain trucks on the rural highways, so expect a slower drive.
