Routes Out of Delaware
Delaware sits on I-95 between Philadelphia and Baltimore, so getting a car onto a carrier is rarely the hard part. Timing around beach traffic is.
Delaware ↔ Florida
About 960 (Wilmington–Orlando) to 1,190 (Wilmington–Miami) milesThe snowbird run, straight down I-95. Winters in Florida, summers back at the Delaware shore.
Delaware ↔ Pennsylvania
About 30 (Wilmington–Philadelphia) to 290 (Wilmington–Pittsburgh) milesWilmington is 30 miles from Philadelphia on I-95, so a carrier serving one usually serves the other. Pittsburgh is across the state on the Turnpike.
Delaware ↔ Virginia
About 190 (Dover–Virginia Beach) to 210 (Wilmington–Richmond) milesDown the Delmarva Peninsula on US-13 and across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to Hampton Roads, or I-95 through Baltimore and Washington to Richmond.

Delaware Questions
Can a carrier pick up at a beach house in Rehoboth, Lewes or Bethany?
Usually close to it. Beach blocks are narrow and summer parking is tight, so most pickups meet at a public lot or a shopping center on Route 1. Midweek is easier than a summer weekend, when traffic toward the beaches is heavy. Tell us the address when you book and we’ll plan the spot.
Is it worth shipping a car from Wilmington to Philadelphia?
Often it isn’t. For a 30-mile move, driving the car yourself usually costs less. Shipping makes sense when the car doesn’t run, when you have more cars than drivers, or when the trip is long, like Delaware to Florida. Call and we’ll help you decide.
I’m moving to Delaware. What does my car need?
Delaware gives new residents 60 days to title and register. You’ll need Delaware insurance, and most cars must pass an inspection, which the Delaware DMV does at its own lanes. Check the DMV’s website for what to bring and the location nearest you.
I’m stationed at Dover Air Force Base. Can you ship my car for a PCS move?
Yes. Have your orders and report date handy, and tell us if your dates might move. Ask about our military discount when you quote; proof of service is required.
What does it cost to ship a car to or from Delaware?
Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. The snowbird months on I-95 and the summer shore season are the busiest times. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.
Car Shipping Across Delaware
City-by-city shipping notes
Delaware is only three counties, but a Wilmington rowhouse block and a Bethany Beach cottage are very different pickups.
Wilmington
The largest city, with I-95 running through downtown. Rowhouse blocks in Trolley Square and Little Italy are tight, so we pick a meeting spot nearby.
Newark
The University of Delaware, off I-95 and DE-896. August move-in and May move-out are the busy weeks.
Dover
The capital, home to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware State University and Dover Motor Speedway. On Route 1 and US-13.
Middletown
One of the fastest-growing towns in the state, on Route 1 and US-301. Newer subdivisions often have HOA rules about big trucks.
Greenville and Centreville
Chateau Country northwest of Wilmington, with estates and long private drives. Many pickups meet at the end of the drive.
Milford
Split between Kent and Sussex counties by the Mispillion River, where Route 1 meets US-113.
Georgetown
The Sussex County seat, on US-113 and US-9 in the middle of the county.
Lewes
The First Town in the First State, at the Cape May–Lewes Ferry. Historic streets are narrow.
Rehoboth Beach
Busy all summer. Beach blocks are tight and parking is scarce, so carriers meet at a lot on Route 1.
Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island
The quiet resorts on the way to the Maryland line, with cottages on small lots.

Summer at the Delaware Shore
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Route 1 toward Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey and Bethany gets heavy on weekends, and beach towns have little room for a full car carrier. Most shore pickups and deliveries meet at a public lot or a shopping center on Route 1. If you’re bringing a car down for the season, book a few weeks before Memorial Day and pick a weekday. The same goes for the trip home after Labor Day.
Wilmington and I-95
I-95 crosses the top of Delaware in about 23 miles, through downtown Wilmington and a toll plaza near Newark. The Delaware Memorial Bridge carries I-295 to the New Jersey Turnpike, the main road north to New York. That puts northern Delaware on one of the East Coast’s main truck routes, which keeps long-distance pickups simple. Older streets in the city are another story: a full carrier is about 75 feet long, so in Trolley Square or Little Italy we usually meet at a wider street or a lot nearby.
Dover Air Force Base
Dover is home to the C-5M Super Galaxy and the C-17, and airmen and their families arrive and leave on orders all year. Many families drive one car to the next base and ship the other. If your report date is fixed, book early and tell us, and ask about our military discount. See military car shipping for what to have ready.
