Idaho Questions
We’re moving from California to Boise. How does shipping the car work?
Give us both addresses and your dates, and we match you with a vetted carrier headed your way. It picks up at your door or a nearby spot and delivers in the Treasure Valley. Most loads come up through Nevada or across Oregon on I-84. If you have two cars, tell us: one carrier can often take both.
Does winter affect car shipping in Idaho?
Mostly in the mountains. I-84 across the south usually stays open, but Lookout Pass and Fourth of July Pass on I-90, US-95 in the north, and the roads to Sun Valley can close or slow down for snow. Carriers wait for the road to clear, so leave a day of room in your dates from November to March.
Why can North Idaho to South Idaho take longer than the miles suggest?
Only one paved highway, US-95, runs the length of the state, and much of it is two lanes over White Bird Hill and the Lewiston grade. Some carriers go around on I-84 and I-90 through Oregon and Washington instead. Tell us both towns and we’ll find a carrier on the right route.
I just moved to Idaho. What do I need to register my car?
Idaho gives new residents 30 days. A car titled in another state needs a VIN inspection, usually by a county sheriff’s office or another approved inspector. Idaho registers cars through each county assessor’s motor vehicle office, so check yours for what else to bring.
What does it cost to ship a car to or from Idaho?
Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. A Boise pickup on I-84 is simpler than a mountain town in January. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

Idaho Cities We Ship To
City-by-city shipping notes
Idaho is really three regions: the Treasure Valley around Boise, Eastern Idaho on I-15, and North Idaho on I-90. Notes on each city:
Boise
The capital, on I-84. The North End’s older, tree-lined streets usually mean meeting at a wider street or a nearby lot.
Meridian
Boise’s fast-growing neighbor on I-84, mostly newer subdivisions where HOAs may limit big trucks.
Nampa and Caldwell
Canyon County on I-84 west of Boise, home to Northwest Nazarene University and the College of Idaho.
Eagle
Foothill neighborhoods northwest of Boise on ID-44 and ID-55, with long drives and gated streets.
Twin Falls
The Magic Valley, on US-93 at the Perrine Bridge over the Snake River Canyon, a few miles off I-84.
Pocatello
Idaho State University, where I-86 meets I-15.
Idaho Falls and Rexburg
Eastern Idaho on I-15 and US-20, with Idaho National Laboratory and BYU–Idaho. Closer to Salt Lake City than to Boise.
Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls
North Idaho on I-90, about 30 miles from Spokane. The lake towns fill up every summer.
Moscow and Lewiston
The University of Idaho in Moscow, and Lewiston at the bottom of the long US-95 grade where the Snake meets the Clearwater.
Ketchum and Sun Valley
Resort homes up ID-75 in the Wood River Valley. Winter storms and narrow drives mean planning the meeting spot.

From California to the Treasure Valley
Many of Boise’s newer residents came from California, and the move usually means two cars and a moving truck. Book the cars two to three weeks ahead, longer in summer, and tell us if your closing date might change. Newer neighborhoods in Meridian, Eagle and Kuna often have HOA rules about large trucks, so the carrier may meet you at a school or shopping center lot nearby. See car shipping for movers for how to time the car with the house.
North Idaho Is a Different Trip
Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Sandpoint are closer to Spokane than to Boise, and most carriers reach them on I-90 from the Washington side. In winter, Fourth of July Pass east of Coeur d’Alene and Lookout Pass at the Montana line see heavy snow. If your car is crossing the panhandle between November and March, keep your dates a little flexible.
Sun Valley and the Mountain Towns
Ketchum, Sun Valley and McCall are reached on two-lane state highways, and many homes sit on steep or narrow drives. Carriers usually meet at a lot in town. For a special car going to a second home, enclosed transport keeps it out of the road salt and gravel.
