FAQ

New Hampshire Questions

How do I register a car in New Hampshire?

New Hampshire gives new residents 60 days, and you start at your Town or City Clerk, not the DMV. The clerk collects the local permit fee, and many towns can issue the state registration too. Plan on a New Hampshire safety inspection soon after. Check with your town clerk for what to bring.

When is mud season, and will it affect my pickup?

Roughly March to May. As the frost leaves the ground, many towns post weight limits on their roads and dirt roads soften, so a loaded carrier stays on the main routes. A spring pickup may meet in town instead of at your house.

Can you ship my motorcycle to Laconia for Bike Week?

Yes. Motorcycles ship on carriers set up for bikes, or enclosed. June fills up, so book early. See motorcycle shipping.

Is fall foliage season a problem for shipping?

Only for traffic. From late September to mid-October, the Kancamagus, Franconia Notch and Route 16 fill with leaf peepers on weekends. In the White Mountains, a weekday pickup or delivery goes smoother.

What does it cost to ship a car to or from New Hampshire?

Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Fall, when snowbirds head south, is a busy time. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

Town Clerk First

New Hampshire does registration differently. New residents start at the Town or City Clerk, who collects the local permit fee, and many towns can finish the state registration on the spot. Bring your title (or lienholder details), proof of residency and your ID, and call ahead, since every town runs its office a little differently. After that, the car needs a New Hampshire safety inspection.

The Mountains and the Lakes

North Conway, Lincoln, Wolfeboro and the Lakes Region are reached on two-lane roads, and many homes sit down long, narrow drives. Carriers usually meet at a lot in town. In mud season and on foliage weekends, give yourself extra room. For a classic or a weekend car, enclosed transport keeps it out of the salt and sand on winter roads.
