City-by-city shipping notes

North Carolina runs about 500 miles from the mountains to the sea. Notes on the main cities and regions:

Charlotte

The largest city, where I-77 meets I-85. Charlotte Motor Speedway and most NASCAR teams are close by.

Raleigh and Cary

The capital and its biggest suburb, on I-40 and I-440, full of newer subdivisions.

Durham and Chapel Hill

Duke and UNC, at the heart of the Research Triangle, on I-40 and I-85.

Greensboro and Winston-Salem

The Triad, where I-40, I-85 and I-74 come together.

Fayetteville

Fort Bragg, one of the biggest Army posts in the country, just off I-95.

Jacksonville

Camp Lejeune, on US-17 near the coast. PCS season keeps it busy.

Wilmington

Port city at the end of I-40, close to Wrightsville and Carolina beaches.

Asheville

Mountain city where I-26 meets I-40. Hurricane Helene damaged roads across the region in 2024, so mountain routes can still change.

Boone

App State in the High Country. Steep, winding roads and winter snow.

The Outer Banks

Kitty Hawk, Nags Head and the beach towns. Summer weekends are slow, and storms can close NC-12.

FAQ

North Carolina Questions

What is a halfback?

It’s the nickname for Northerners who retired to Florida, then moved halfway back, often to the Carolina mountains or foothills. If that’s you, we can arrange the car from Florida. Ask about our senior discount when you quote.

I have orders to Fort Bragg or Camp Lejeune. Can you ship my car?

Yes. Fort Bragg is just off I-95 near Fayetteville, and Lejeune is on US-17 near Jacksonville. Have your orders and report date handy, and ask about our military discount; proof of service is required.

Can a carrier use the Blue Ridge Parkway?

No. Commercial vehicles aren’t allowed on the Parkway, so carriers stick to I-40, I-26 and the US highways in the mountains. If your home is near the Parkway, we’ll meet you on a road that allows trucks.

I just moved to North Carolina. How long do I have to register my car?

North Carolina gives new residents 60 days. You title and register at an NCDMV license plate agency, with North Carolina insurance. The car will need a state inspection before you renew.

What does it cost to ship a car to or from North Carolina?

Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Charlotte and the Triangle sit on major interstates; the mountains and the Outer Banks take more planning. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

Charlotte and the Triangle

Charlotte and the Raleigh–Durham–Chapel Hill Triangle have grown fast, with new arrivals from the Northeast, Florida and the West. Most new neighborhoods have room for a carrier, though many HOAs restrict big trucks, and we may meet at a school or shopping lot. Uptown Charlotte and downtown Raleigh apartments usually need a nearby meeting spot. Book two or three weeks ahead in summer, when most families move.

The Mountains and the Coast

Asheville, Boone and the High Country are reached on I-40, I-26 and winding two-lane roads, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed to commercial vehicles. Hurricane Helene changed roads across the mountains in 2024, so tell us exactly where you are. On the coast, Wilmington and the Outer Banks get busy in summer, and storms can close NC-12. Leave room in your dates from June to November.
