Car Shipping Across Minnesota
City-by-city shipping notes
Most Minnesota pickups are in the Twin Cities metro, but carriers reach lake country, Duluth and the Red River Valley too:
Minneapolis
Snow emergencies turn many streets into tow zones after a big storm, so winter pickups meet on a cleared main street or a lot.
St. Paul
The capital, across the Mississippi, with its own snow emergency rules. Home to Macalester and St. Thomas.
Bloomington
South of Minneapolis on I-494, home to the Mall of America and close to the airport.
Lake Minnetonka
Wayzata, Excelsior and the lake towns west of the city, with long private drives.
Rochester
Home of Mayo Clinic, about 85 miles southeast of the Twin Cities on US-52.
Duluth
At the tip of Lake Superior, where I-35 ends. Steep hillside streets make a spot near the freeway easier.
St. Cloud
On I-94 northwest of the Twin Cities, home to St. Cloud State.
Mankato
Minnesota State University, Mankato, on US-169 and US-14 in the south.
Moorhead
Across the Red River from Fargo, on I-94.
Brainerd
Lake country and cabins up north, on MN-210 and MN-371.

Minnesota Questions
What happens if a snow emergency is declared on my pickup day?
In Minneapolis and St. Paul, a snow emergency means parking bans and towing while plows clear the streets, and a carrier can’t stop to load. We’ll move the meeting spot to a cleared main road or a lot, or shift the pickup a day.
I’m moving to Rochester for a job at Mayo Clinic. Can you ship my car?
Yes. Rochester is easy for carriers to reach from I-90 and US-52. Tell us your start date and book a couple of weeks ahead, so the car arrives close to when you do. Travel nurses on contract can see car shipping for travel nurses.
Do Minnesota snowbirds ship to Arizona or Florida?
Both, and the busy months are the same: October to December heading south, and March to May coming home. Book a few weeks ahead, and ship before the first big snow if you can.
I just moved to Minnesota. How long do I have to register my car?
Minnesota gives new residents 60 days. You title and register through Driver and Vehicle Services, at a deputy registrar office. Bring your out-of-state title, proof of Minnesota insurance and your ID.
What does it cost to ship a car to or from Minnesota?
Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. A winter pickup up north takes more planning than a summer pickup in the Twin Cities. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.
Who Ships in Minnesota

Winter in the Twin Cities
After a big snow, Minneapolis and St. Paul declare snow emergencies, and parked cars on the wrong side of the street get tagged and towed while the plows go through. A carrier can’t stop to load on those streets either. In winter we pick a cleared main road or a lot for the pickup, and keep your dates a little flexible in case a storm moves things a day.
Snowbird Season
Minnesota sends cars south to Arizona, Texas and Florida every fall. The trip to Phoenix runs south through Iowa and Kansas; Florida goes by way of Chicago. Book the trip south a few weeks ahead for October through December, and book the trip home before March. See snowbird car shipping, and ask about our senior discount.
Up North
Cabins around Brainerd, the Iron Range and the North Shore often sit down narrow, unpaved roads, and spring load limits close some of them to heavy trucks while the frost comes out. We meet at the nearest paved road or a lot in town. Tell us about the road when you book.
