City-by-city shipping notes

The whole state is about an hour across, but Providence hills, Newport lanes and beach roads each need their own plan:

Providence

The capital, where I-95 meets I-195. College Hill and Federal Hill streets are steep and narrow, so we meet at a wider street.

Warwick

Home of the state’s main airport, on I-95 and I-295 south of Providence.

Cranston

West of Providence on I-95 and RI-10.

Pawtucket

North of Providence on I-95 near the Massachusetts line.

Newport

Naval Station Newport and the mansions, over the Pell Bridge. Summer traffic is heavy and the old streets are tight.

Middletown and Portsmouth

The rest of Aquidneck Island, next to the naval station, with more room to load.

South Kingstown and Narragansett

URI in Kingston and the beaches along Route 1 and Route 108.

Westerly

The southwest corner on Route 1, near Watch Hill and the Connecticut line.

Woonsocket

The northern edge of the state on RI-146 and RI-99.

Block Island

Cars cross on the ferry from Point Judith, so the carrier delivers on the mainland side.

FAQ

Rhode Island Questions

Can a carrier cross the Pell Bridge to Newport?

Yes. Trucks use the bridge every day, though high winds can bring restrictions for tall vehicles. In summer, a weekday pickup in Newport is much easier than a weekend one.

I’m moving from Newport to Norfolk on orders. Can you ship my car?

Yes. Newport to Norfolk is about 530 miles. Have your orders and report date handy, and ask about our military discount; proof of service is required. See military car shipping.

Can you get a car to Block Island?

The carrier can’t go to the island, but we can deliver near the Point Judith ferry terminal, and you take the car across on the Block Island Ferry. Car space on the ferry fills fast in summer, so reserve early.

I just moved to Rhode Island. How do I register my car?

Through the Rhode Island DMV. You’ll need your title, Rhode Island insurance and your ID, and the car will need a Rhode Island inspection. Check the DMV for the deadline and what to bring.

What does it cost to ship a car to or from Rhode Island?

Distance, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Fall, when snowbirds head to Florida, is a busy time. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.

Providence Pickups

Providence packs Brown, RISD, Johnson & Wales and Providence College into old, hilly neighborhoods. College Hill and Federal Hill streets are steep, narrow and lined with parked cars, so most pickups there meet at a wider street or a lot nearby. Move-in at the end of August is the busiest stretch. See student car shipping, and ask about our student discount.

Newport and Aquidneck Island

Carriers reach Newport over the Pell Bridge or from the north through Portsmouth. In summer, traffic and tight colonial streets make downtown pickups slow, so we usually meet in Middletown or at a lot near the bridge. Naval Station Newport is mostly schools and training commands, so Navy families come and go on orders all year. See military car shipping.
