Same-Day Pickup vs. Same-Day Delivery
Same-day pickup means a carrier picks up your car today. How soon it arrives depends on the distance. Federal hours-of-service rules limit a truck driver to 11 hours of driving a day, so even a fast trip covers roughly 500 miles a day. Same-day delivery only works on short routes, a few hours’ drive at most. Cross-country, a same-day pickup still means several days on the road.
When Same-Day Pickup Is Possible
- A carrier with an open spot is near you today and headed in your direction. That’s most of it.
- You’re near a main interstate in or around a big metro, where more carriers pass through.
- The car is ready now: keys in hand, it runs, nothing inside.
- Someone can meet the driver on short notice, at pickup and at delivery.
- Open transport is fine. Enclosed carriers are fewer, so same-day enclosed is harder to find.
Why It Can Cost More
To make a same-day pickup work, a carrier may change its route or leave with a partial load. That’s worth more to them, so a same-day price is usually higher than a standard one. If your dates have any give, a pickup in the next day or two often costs less.
How to Make Today Likely
- Call (424) 453-1800. For today, a phone call is faster than a form.
- Have the details ready: both ZIP codes, the year, make and model, and whether it runs.
- Be flexible on time and place. If you can meet the driver in a big parking lot near the interstate, more carriers can say yes.
- Line up delivery. Know who will accept the car at the other end.
What We Won’t Do
We won’t tell you a carrier is coming today until one has confirmed. If today isn’t possible on your route, we’ll say so and give you the earliest pickup we can confirm. And the price we quote is the price you pay, good for 30 days, as long as your vehicle, route and dates stay the same. Short on time and not sure where to start? Read what to do in the next hour.
Last-Minute Moves, in Our Customers’ Words
“Shelby Auto Transport literally saved the day. I had scheduled with [another company] 3 weeks ahead of time but no communication and then missed both days and wanted to charge me more after missing the windows. I was desperate because I was moving out of state the next morning. I called Shelby and spoke with Ray. Immediately I knew I was in better hands. He was true to his word and worked hard to get a last minute truck scheduled. I’ve since learned that most auto transport companies are a nightmare. I am so grateful I found this gem. The trustworthiness and communication is what makes Shelby the only choice! Thank you!!”

“I can’t say enough about Shelby Auto Transport. I booked this company the day before to ship my mercedes truck from Cali to Atlanta and they took the ball and ran with it. Ray assured me that he would make sure to get my car shipped the next day as I had a last minute flight change and boy did he keep his word. He was kind, an effective communicator and a man of his word and the best part is they picked my car up on Friday with an expected delivery of Tuesday, you guys my car was delivered to me on Sunday at 2PM. I know I know! I don’t know if they flew either but either way this company definitely is heaven sent and I highly recommend. Thank you so much Ray. You’re the best.”

Same-Day Questions
Can you guarantee a same-day pickup?
No one honestly can. It depends on a carrier with room being near you today and heading your way. Call and we’ll tell you quickly whether it’s possible on your route.
How late in the day can I call?
The earlier the better. Carriers plan their day early, so a morning call has the best chance of a pickup today.
Does same-day pickup mean same-day delivery?
Only on short routes. Federal rules limit a truck driver to 11 hours behind the wheel a day, so a long trip still takes days, even when pickup happens today.
Is same-day the same as expedited shipping?
Expedited shipping gets you a priority pickup window. Same-day is the tightest version of it, and it’s only possible when a carrier is close by.
